In our little Farmacy, we provide quality whole food supplements called Standard Process
WHAT IS THIS?
The way we work in functional nutrition, Chinese medicine or holistic medicine, is to look at your body as a whole. We are not looking for what is “broken” we are looking at function. Long before there is illness or disease, there is loss of function.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. The old adage about prevention fits well here. Lets take for example, acid reflux. No big deal right? In many cases of acid reflux, the problem feels like there is too much acid, but may actually be from too little. So when you take an antacid, you do feel better, but it weakens the acid further. This will interfere with the way you digest food, absorb minerals, B12, and protect against pathogens. To complicate it further, it may change the pH of the intestines as well, which will then change the microbiota and the ability to break down food. This has a cascading effect and can lead to many disorders such as weight gain, Pernicious anemia (B12 Deficiency), constipation, diarrhea, IBS, thyroid dysfunction, sugar cravings, insomnia, etc…
Its all connected.....
We look at the way your body functions and add support where needed. The same way you might make adjustments in driving down the road. you don’t wait until you are in the ditch to adjust, why would you wait until you are sick to adjust and address your body’s needs?
"After working with patients for over 10 years, I could see something was missing. I was getting results but at times, easy cases had inconsistent results. What I came to realize was that people were often undoing their health with their plate.
Even people who ate "healthy" were causing obstacles to achieving their health goals. Food, like everything else in Chinese medicine, is about balance. Not just "healthy vs unhealthy" but what was right for the patient, their condition, their lifestyle, etc..
I found Standard Process while searching for solutions for my patients. What I liked about Standard Process and what is so different, aside from quality, was what was in the supplements.
We use herbs in Chinese medicine. Many medications are made from extracting "active ingredients" of an herb and concentrating it. This can create a powerful but unbalanced drug which often come with a host of side effects that didn't exist when in its balanced form. The same can be said for nutritional supplements. Most "vitamins" sold don't contain vitamins. They are made from non-food chemicals to form a part of a vitamin. They are isolates rather than complexes. In nature vitamins are always in complexes. This is why there are always studies coming out saying not to take vitamins because they either don't help or may harm your health. This is not true of the vitamin complex. The vitamin complex is what our bodies use when we consume food. This approach was much closer to Chinese medicine theory.
The more I searched, read and studied, the more I realized this was what was missing. Functional nutrition was the missing key to helping people achieve their health goals. This is different than nutrition. it is not simply "eat healthy"... functional nutrition is similar to Chinese medicine in that we look at how the body is functioning and support where needed to restore balance. True health is not the absence of symptoms. True health is about balance, and that is what we do with functional nutrition. Even when medication is necessary, being in balance makes you healthier but also other forms of therapy are more effective." -Rick Jahn
This is your first step, contact. We do a 15 minute free consult via phone or telemedicine (video chat). This helps Rick answer any questions you may have about your condition/ symptoms and what you should expect for your future appointments. This is also a great way to find out about our Standard Process supplements as well!
(2) YOUR NUTRITION APPOINTMENT/ WHAT TO EXPECT
Once you decide you are ready to move forward, our front desk will set up your Functional Medicine appointment. Prior to your appointment, your Functional Nutritionist will send you a questionnaire that will need to be filled out prior to your appointment.
During the appointment Rick will provide a comprehensive intake to get a complete picture of what you are experiencing followed by another appointment, if necessary, to discuss report of findings. This helps identify underlying patterns that have been contributing to your symptoms and discuss options.
**to get a complete picture of what you are experiencing. It takes more time, but it gives us a better understanding of your needs. Its non-invasive, cost effective and takes into account what you are personally experiencing rather than what the lab says you are experiencing.**
